The Eagles and Sugar Bears face off for the second time overall, after UCA joined the ASUN Conference. FGCU defeated UCA 71-44 last year, in February, from Alico Arena. UCA is led offensively by Parris Atkins, who is averaging 11.6 ppg. Head Coach Sandra Rusbing, has led the Sugar Bears since 2012. UCA’s wins on the year have come against Lindenwood, Louisiana-Monroe, Hendrix, Little Rock, Champion Christian, and EKU. Their setbacks have come against Kanasas State, Arkansas, Alcorn State, Tulsa, Pine Bluff, Alabama A&M, Jacksonville State, Liberty, and Stetson.
The Eagles head into this game riding high, as winners of their past eight game. FGCU is led offensively by TK Morehouse, who is averaging 16.1 ppg. Alyza Winston, is having an outstanding season, in her first season at FGCU, averaging 14.2 ppg. After trying to stop both Morehouse, and Winston, you have to try to contain Sha Carter (10.8 ppg). Sophia Styles and Uju Ezeudu are starting to go off for FGCU in different roles too, so defenses now have plenty of difficult choices, in who do they guard, with all the firepower Head Coach Karl Smesko has at his disposal. Look for the Eagles to overcome the slow start they had at home vs UNA, and play their brand of basketball, leading to a big win over UCA.
