RAINBOW WAHINE SHOWDOWN: #2 STANFORD/FGCU RECAP

Honolulu, HI- FGCU (4-1) dropped their first game of the year, falling 93-69, to #2 Stanford University (6-1), Friday night in the Rainbow Wahine Showdown.

Stats (#2 SU):

#2 Stanford shot 52.1% (37/71) from the field, 33.3% (6/18) from beyond the arc, and outrebounded the Eagles 58-21. The Cardinal dished out 15 assists, had 3 steals, and 1 block in the game. #2 Stanford forced 7 FGCU team turnovers, while having 14 team turnovers of their own.

Stats (FGCU):

FGCU shot 34.3% (24/70) from the field, 28.3% (13/46) from beyond the arc, and were outrebounded by the Cardinal 58-21. The Eagles dished out 10 assists, had 4 steals, and 1 block in the game. FGCU forced 14 Stanford team turnovers, while having 7 team turnovers of their own.

Overview:

FGCU held their own vs the #2 team in the country, for most of the game, until the Cardinal pulled away, courtesy of a 32 point 4th quarter. Haley Jones scored a game high 24 points, and grabbed 14 rebounds and was one of two Cardinal players with a double-double in the game. Kiki Iriafen, was the other player with a double-double, and she finished with 16 points, and 11 rebounds. Cameron Brink also scored in double figures for #2 Stanford, scoring 13 points.

The Eagles were led offensively by TK Morehouse, who scored a game high 24 points, and Uju Ezeudu, who scored 13 points in the game. FGCU shot 28% from beyond the arc, hitting thirteen 3 points field goals in the game. The seven team turnovers by the Eagles, were another positive for the team, and FGCU can only find positives to build off, after facing the #2 team in the country in the Rainbow Wahine Showdown.

FGCU (4-1) faces the University of Hawai’i (0-4), Saturday at 7:30 PM from the Stan Sheriff Center in the Rainbow Wahine Showdown.
