FGCU faces former national champion: #2 Stanford, and the Eagles look for the upset of the season, in the Rainbow Wahine Showdown. #2 Stanford has wins over San Diego St, CSU Northridge, Pacific, Portland, and Cal Poly. Their lone loss came to #1 South Carolina, in overtime. Tara Vanderveer is the Setsuko Ishiyama Director of Women’s Basketball, and has over 36 seasons leading the Cardinal. 6’4 JR F Cameron Brink is one of the best players in women’s college basketball, and she is averaging 12.5 ppg. At 6’4, she will present true matchup problem for the Eagles, so finding a way to limit her in the post, is a huge concern for FGCU. 6’3 SO F Kiki Iriafen (11.7 ppg), and 6’5 SR F Ashten Pretchel (4.7 ppg), also play big minutes in the post for #2 Stanford, so it will be interested to see how FGCU guards the Cardinal frontcourt.

FGCU is led offensively by 5’8 R-JR G Alyza Winston, who is averaging 20.0 ppg. The combination of Winston with TK Morehouse (15.5 ppg), will have to continue their strong play of recent, to keep up with the offense of #2 Stanford.
