Overview:

#12 FGCU gave everything they had Sunday afternoon but the length of #4 Maryland proved to be too much for the Eagles. Kendall Spray led the Eagles offensively and finished with 17 points, hitting key 3 point field goals to keep the Eagles in the game early in the 1st half. Kierstan Bell finished her FGCU career with 14 points in the game, and now looks to begin her professional career as she is a top 10 projected WNBA pick. Maryland had three players finish with 20+ points including Diamond Miller, who scored 24 points, Angel Reese who finished with 21 points, and Ashley Owusu who scored 20 points. Maryland claimed another win over a top 25 team in the Eagles and now head to the Sweet 16 to face #1 Stanford in Spokane on 3/25.

In a season where the Eagles finished 30-3, won an ASUN regular season championship, and ASUN championship tournament title, there are way too many positives than negatives when it comes to this team. The Eagles will move on next season with many key pieces graduating or playing professionally, but you know that Head Coach Karl Smesko will continue to add to this talented bunch. The Eagles defeated a LSU team 88-74 in November, and now that same Tigers team is a 3 seed and facing #6 seed Ohio State Monday night, for a berth in the Sweet 16. We are thankful to cover this team for another season, and can’t wait for the next one!
