FGCU/UNA PREVIEW

Florence, AL- FGCU (6-14, 3-2) heads to Alabama to face UNA (7-11, 2-3) with the hope of extending their ASUN win streak to three games Saturday afternoon from Flowers Hall.

Overview:

UNA is led by Head Coach Tony Pujol who is in his 2nd season leading the Lions. UNA had a solid non conference schedule where they played Indiana, South Carolina, and #17 FSU on the road.

This is year 2 for UNA in their reclassification to NCAA Division I so they will be able to play in the ASUN Conference tournament at the end of the season but they are ineligible for the NCAA Tournament. FGCU split the series with UNA last season and lost to UNA last season in their first ever NCAA D1 game.

This UNA team was a really talented team last season that caught plenty of teams by surprise including the Eagles last season. Jamari Blackmon was the ASUN Freshman of the Year last season and they’ve got the young growing team around him to continue their success in conference play this season. Though, at 2-3 though this season they’ve lost at home to Stetson and on the road to UNF and Liberty, the same two teams the Eagles have lost to in ASUN play.

Stats:

UNA averages 67.1 points per game, they shoot 41.7% from the field, 32% from beyond the arc, and average 35.6 rebounds per game. The Lions dish out 10.9 assists per game, and average 6.4 steals per game and 2.5 blocks per game. UNA averages 14.6 team turnovers per game.
