Overview:

The Eagles picked up another huge ASUN Conference series win this weekend vs the Governors. FGCU outscored Austin Peay 29-14 in the series, and dominated a Governors team that had been playing great baseball in ASUN Conference play, leading into this series.

In game one of the series, Nick Love (3-1) dominated the Governors, allowing 2 ER through 6.2 innings pitched. The Eagles were led offensively by Alejandro Rodriguez, who finished with 3 RBI’s. Austin Peay was led offensively by Jon Jon Gazdar and Trevor Conley, who each finished with an RBI.

In the second game of the series, FGCU received another 12 run performance from the offense, and the Eagles were led offensively by Edrick Felix, Stephen Wilmer, and Mac Moise, who each finished with 3 RBI’s. Austin Peay was led offensively by Lyle Miller-Green, and Ambren Voitik, who each finished with 2 RBI’s.

In the final game of the series, it was a back and forth affair, as the Eagles took a 5-4 lead in the top of the 9th, courtesy of a Brian Ellis solo home run, but the Governors responded, as Ambren Voitik hit a solo home run to tie the game up, in the bottom of the inning. The game winning hit came in the top of the 10th, as Jalen Townsend‘s pinch hit RBI single secured the sweep. LJ McDonough (4-2), earned the win in relief, pitching 3 innings, allowing 2 runs (one ER), while striking out 5 Governors. It was a statement series for the Eagles, and they are currently on a 5 game winning streak, heading into the next ASUN Conference series.

What’s Next:

FGCU (33-11, 16-5 ASUN) heads home to face Stetson University (27-17, 15-6 ASUN), for a three game series, starting Friday night from Swanson Stadium.
