Overview:
FGCU is in a tough spot, losing four of five games, entering the final month of their schedule. Pitching injuries have been an issue for the Eagles, without the services of Jason Woodward, and Mason Miller. Starter Jacob Lojewski pitched 2 innings allowing 3 hits, and 2 earned runs, while striking out one batter. Stephen Wilmer was strong in relief in his first appearance of the season pitching 3 innings while striking out 6 batters. The Eagles offensively couldn’t do enough to defeat a struggling FIU team. Losing the top 25 ranking isn’t a big deal, but playing consistent baseball both offensively, and defensively, while receiving strong pitching from both the starters and bullpen, will decide whether this team can make a deep run in the ASUN Conference tournament or head home early.
Both Harrison Povey and Edrick Felix hit home runs in the game, and led the Eagles with 2 RBI’s each. FIU had multiple players with an RBI, and the go ahead run occurred in the bottom of the 11th, as Mike Rosario walked, scoring SS Henry Wallen.
What’s Next:
FGCU (27-10, 11-4 ASUN) heads home to face Jacksonville State University (17-18, 10-5 ASUN) in ASUN Conference play for a three game series, starting Friday night from Swanson Stadium.
