The Eagles and Golden Panthers face off for the second time this season, Wednesday night from FIU Baseball Stadium. #19 FGCU defeated FIU on 2/28, 14-7, from Swanson Stadium. The Golden Panthers are 9-3 since last facing the Eagles, and had won 8 games in a row, before losing to Miami on 3/15. FIU is led offensively by Dante Girardi, who is batting .351 with 1 home run, and 10 RBI’s. Girardi is currently on an 11 game hitting streak also. Ryne Guida leads the team with 27 RBI’s on the season, and those 27 RBI’s have him ranked 3rd in RBI’s in Conference USA.
#19 FGCU is led offensively by Alejandro Figueredo, who is hitting .424, with 7 home runs, and 25 RBI’s this season. Their leading slugger is Joe Kinker, who has 28 RBI’s on the season, and Edrick Felix leads the team with 9 home runs. Coach Tollett has this team on a different level offensively, and also getting solid starting pitching from his staff. Even without Jason Woodward (injury), the rotation has been solid, and the back end of the bullpen has been dominant, whether it’s Connor O’Hara (2-1, 3.26 ERA, 2 SV) or LJ McDonough (1-0, 0.75 ERA, 5 SV) closing games for the Eagles. We are looking forward to another mid-week clash with FIU.
