Overview:
The #20 Eagles open up ASUN Conference play vs Liberty University. The Flames have lost four games in a row, but Liberty has been one of the best teams in the conference for years. The Eagles are returning home after taking all three series on the road vs #16 FSU, a previously undefeated Troy University team, and FAMU. FGCU went 6-2 during the eight game stretch.
The Flames are led offensively by 5’9 SR C Gray Betts, who is batting .305, with 2 HR, and 9 RBI’s. Camden Troyer is another name to remember, as he is 3rd on the team with a .281 batting average, and has 3 HR, and 12 RBI’s this season. Head Coach Scott Jackson has led the Flames since 2016, and has earned three NCAA regional appearances in his time with Liberty. The Flames have played a difficult non-conference schedule, with series vs #18 Southern Miss, and #12 ECU, while also facing #4 Wake Forest this week at home for one game.
#20 FGCU is tearing the cover off the ball this season, and is led offensively by Joe Kinker, who is batting .408, with 7 HR, and 28 RBI’s. Kinker has been named ASUN Player of the Week this year, and is putting up elite numbers in his senior season for Coach Tollett. Alejandro Figueredo (.406, 5 HR, 17 RBI’s), and Edrick Felix (.391, 7 HR, 17 RBI’s) also have had outstanding seasons this year for FGCU. Winning series is everything during ASUN Conference play, and taking a series vs the Flames would be huge, after the amount of success the team has had in non-conference play.
