Overview:

The Eagles and Flames settle the score Saturday night in the ASUN Championship game. Both teams won their home games during the regular season, and it’s fitting for Coach Smesko and Coach Green to face off one final time before the Flames head to Conference USA.

Liberty’s road to the championship game, included defeating #7 KSU, 91-70, and #3 Lipscomb, 84-56, Thursday night from Liberty Arena. The Eagles defeated #9 Stetson University, 66-48, and #4 Austin Peay, 51-34, Thursday night from Alico Arena. Something has to give with Liberty coming into this game as winners of their past sixteen games, and FGCU being winners of their last thirteen games.

ASUN First Team All-Conference Mya Berkman leads the Flames offensively, averaging 14.7 ppg. Mya is an incredible athlete, and at 6’3 gives the Eagles trouble in the post. Limiting Berkman in the post will be key to an FGCU victory. Emma Hess (8.5 ppg) and Dee Brown (8.2 ppg) are key players at guard for Liberty, and they will be working hard to get the ball to Mya in the post.

ASUN Player of the Year, and ASUN First Team All-Conference Guard TK Morehouse leads the Eagles offensively, averaging 15.8 ppg. TK runs the offense for FGCU, and everything goes through her on the court. ASUN First Team All-Conference Guard Sha Carter continues to impress, and is averaging 13.8 ppg. Sha has been incredible in her first season playing D-1 basketball, and the opportunity to have all the depth at guard the Eagles have is a complete blessing. While you try to limit these two outstanding guards, don’t leave Alyza Winston open. Winston is averaging 12.8 ppg, and was selected to the ASUN Third Team All-Conference. All that’s left is to decide which team will be headed to the NCAA Tournament representing the ASUN Conference as the champions, and we can’t wait to see the Flames and Eagles collide for one last time, for all the marbles.
