Overview:

#24 FGCU faces FAMU this weekend, and the last time the Eagles and Rattlers faced off in 2021, the teams split a four game series from Moore-Kittles Field. FAMU is 1-6 at home this season from Moore-Kittles Field. Head Coach Jamey Shouppe has led FAMU since 2013. The Rattlers are led offensively by Ty Hanchey, who is hitting .378 with 4 HR, and 11 RBI’s. FAMU has one series win on the season, and it was against Grambling State University. The Rattlers are apart of the SWAC Conference, and were picked to finish 3rd in the Eastern Division. Hunter Viets (1-0, 3.18 ERA, 17 K) was picked to finish as SWAC Preseason Pitcher of the Year, and he was also selected to SWAC Preseason 1st Team. Joseph Pierini, and Ty Hanchey were selected to the SWAC Preseason 2nd Team.

#24 FGCU is led offensively by Joe Kinker, who is hitting .441 with 7 HR, and 25 RBI’s. He has been carrying this team offensively all season, and is on his way to the ASUN Conference 1st team, if he keeps up this pace. So far on this road trip, the Eagles are 4-1, taking two of three games from #16 FSU, and sweeping the two game series from the previously undefeated Troy University Trojans. #24 FGCU can’t let up this series, and underachieve against a FAMU Rattlers team that has struggled this season, with a 5-9 record. The Eagles need to sweep the Rattlers, heading into next week’s three game showdown with ASUN Conference preseason #1: Liberty University.
