UMASS LOWELL/FGCU RECAP

Fort Myers, FL- FGCU (7-1) swept UMass Lowell (0-6), taking all three games this weekend, vs the River Hawks.

Game 1: FGCU 8, UMASS Lowell 2

Overview:

Jason Woodward set the tone for the Eagles and was electric, striking out 10, and walking 2 batters, through 5 innings pitched. Edrick Felix and Jacob Lojewski provided the pop, combining for 3 home runs on the night, as the Eagles got back on track vs the River Hawks. Robert Gallagher, and Trey Brown each had RBI’s in the game. It was great to see the electric Eagles offense pick up Woodward, and get back on track after the tough loss to Indiana State.

Game 2: FGCU 7, UMASS Lowell 6

Overview:

This game was a classic, with UML hitting a go ahead 3 run HR in the top of the 8th, off the bat of Fritz Genther, but FGCU was able to tie the game up later in that inning with a Joe Kinker sacrifice fly. The Eagles walked off after Mac Moise came through with a bases loaded, RBI single. Mason Miller was dominant in a no decision, pitching 5 innings, while striking out 11 batters, walking one, and allowing an unearned run. FGCU received home runs from Harrison Povey, and Alejandro Figueredo in the game.

Game 3: FGCU 7, UMASS Lowell 5

Overview:

The Eagles continued to rally vs UML, and in this game, the River Hawks built a 5-1 lead in the top of the 4th before FGCU built the come back. Alejandro Rodriguez was hit by a pitch (5-2), and Edrick Felix drove in Figgy (5-3), to bring the Eagles back within 2 runs. In the bottom of the 8th, Stephen Wilmer hit a solo home run (5-4), and Harrison Povey (5-5) tied the game up with an RBI double. Later in the inning, Povey scored on a wild pitch (6-5), and Rodriguez drove in Figgy to build the largest lead of the game for FGCU (7-5). Nick Love came on and earned the save for FGCU, finishing off the sweep of the River Hawks.

What’s Next:

FGCU (7-1) faces FIU (3-5), Tuesday night at 6:30 PM, from Swanson Stadium.
