Overview:
The Royals and Eagles square off for the second time this year Monday night from the KSU Convocation Center. In their first matchup, Queens defeated FGCU 84-82, from Curry Arena. The Eagles were led offensively by Andre Weir, who scored 22 points in the game. The Royals were led offensively by AJ McKee, who scored a game high 23 points. Queens lost a pair of games to end the ASUN Conference regular season vs #2 seed Liberty University.
FGCU is led offensively by Isaiah Thompson, who is averaging 15.1 ppg, and done it all offensively for the Eagles. Chase Johnston (12.4 ppg) has been playing great basketball for the Eagles lately, and if this game is going to have the offense and firepower we expect it to, the Eagles are gonna need him to be on fire from beyond the arc, especially the way he shot against Austin Peay, Friday night from Alico Arena.
#9 Queens is led offensively by Kenny Dye, who is averaging 17.2 ppg. Everything offensively flows through Dye, who has had an incredible season in Queens, first year of D-1 basketball. Head Coach Grant Leonard has nothing to be ashamed of in his first season leading Queens. The Royals are a dangerous team offensively, and #10 FGCU will be in a dog fight with #9 Queens, who boasts two guards that average over 15 ppg, and can shoot the ball from anywhere on the court. For a first round game, this game has plenty of firepower offensively as both teams score plenty of points, as well as having solid offensive guards. #1 KSU will be watching this game closely, as they host, and face the winner of Monday night’s game, Tuesday night. It’s win or go home, and ASUN MADNESS starts now!
