Overview:

FGCU and UMASS Lowell face off Friday night and it’s been a tough start the season for the River Hawks, after being swept by #23 South Carolina. The Gamecocks outscored the River Hawks 49-5, in the three game series, from Columbia. Head Coach Ken Harring is in his 19th season leading UMASS Lowell. Trey Brown leads the team offensively, hitting .286 with 2 RBI’s. The River Hawks play in the America East Conference, and were picked to finish 2nd. Jacob Humphrey returns for his sophomore year, after breaking the America East record for stolen bases (46).

The Eagles return after a tough loss Tuesday afternoon vs Indiana State. The offense has been carrying this team through four games, and while we knew the familiar faces could rake, the newcomers are playing a major role also. Joe Kinker is leading the Eagles offensively, hitting. .550, with a home run, and 7 RBI’s. Edrick Felix is swinging a hot bat also, hitting .389, with 2 home runs, and 7 RBI’s. Alejandro Figueredo is picking off where he left off offensively, hitting .471, with one home run, and 6 RBI’s.

On the pitching side, Jason Woodward (1-0, 0.00 ERA) and Mason Miller (1-0, 3.86 ERA) had strong starts vs Hofstra, and look to continue that trend this weekend vs the River Hawks. Expect some great baseball this weekend between both teams, with FGCU taking advantage of another home series early into non-conference play.
