LIPSCOMB/FGCU RECAP

Fort Myers, FL- FGCU (16-14, 6-11 ASUN) lost 73-64 to Lipscomb University (18-12, 10-7 ASUN), Wednesday night, from Alico Arena.

Stats (LU):

Lipscomb shot 48.1% (26/54) from the field, 34.8% (8/23) from beyond the arc, and outrebounded FGCU 47-32. The Bisons dished out 15 assists, had 5 steals, and 2 blocks in the game. Lipscomb forced 9 FGCU team turnovers, while having 18 team turnovers of their own.

Stats (FGCU):

FGCU shot 34.3% (24/70) from the field, 22.9% (8/35) from beyond the arc, and were outrebounded 47-32 by Lipscomb. The Eagles dished out 11 assists, had 11 steals, and 2 blocks in the game. FGCU forced 18 Lipscomb team turnovers, while having 9 team turnovers of their own.

Overview:

The Eagles were down 42-21, with 18 minutes plus in the 2nd half, and the game looked completely out of reach, but FGCU went on a run of their own, and were able to pull within 1 with 8 minutes left in the 2nd half. FGCU tied the game up at 62, with 2:47 left in the game, but Lipscomb closed the game out on an 8-2 run, to take the game from Alico Arena. FGCU needed this game, and they came up short once again. Jacksonville lost 63-61 at home to Bellarmine, so the Eagles still are alive, and will earn the final spot in the ASUN Conference tournament, with a win over Austin Peay.

FGCU was led offensively by Isaiah Thompson, who scored 15 points. Caleb Catto and Chase Johnston each scored 13 points and finished in double figures for the Eagles. Lipscomb was led offensively by Jacob Ognacevic, who scored a game high 21 points. Ognacevic was outstanding tonight, and is a complete player for Lennie Acuff, and the Bisons. Ahsan Asadullah (11 points), and Derrin Boyd (10 points), also scored in double figures for Lipscomb. With the win, Lipscomb moved into 5th place in the ASUN Conference. The Bisons are one game out of 4th place, which is occupied by EKU. Lipscomb has a win over the Colonels this season, so a win over Stetson could earn the Bisons a home playoff game for the ASUN Conference tournament.

FGCU (16-14, 6-11 ASUN) closes up the regular season at home vs Austin Peay State University (9-21, 3-14 ASUN), Friday night at 7 PM, from Alico Arena.
