Overview:

This game was another classic between both the Hatters and Eagles. If you’ve followed this FGCU team all year, especially during conference play, you know all these games are either one or two possession games. The Eagles loss was another blow to an underwhelming year, and without Jacksonville losing to Lipscomb on a buzzer beater, FGCU would be out of the running for an ASUN Conference tournament spot. The Eagles are holding on to the 10th and final spot, that qualifies for the ASUN Conference tournament.

FGCU was led offensively by Isaiah Thompson, who finished with 19 points. Caleb Catto (16 points), Andre Weir (11 points), and Chase Johnston (10 points) also scored in double figures for FGCU.

Stetson was led offensively by Luke Brown who scored a game high 22 points. Jalen Blackmon (21 points), Wheza Panzo (15 points), and Stephan Swenson (12 points) all scored in double figures for the Hatters. Swenson was injured right before half time, and we wish him a quick recovery. The Hatters are now tied with EKU at 11-5 in conference play, and are in the 4th spot in the conference standings. The Hatters would host a game during the ASUN Conference tournament, if the season ended today. FGCU needs to win their final two games at home vs Lipscomb, and Austin Peay, to extend their season.

What’s Next:

FGCU (16-13, 6-10 ASUN) remains home to face Lipscomb University (17-12, 9-7 ASUN), Wednesday night at 7 PM, from Alico Arena.
