Overview:

The Eagles took care of business at home Thursday night, and while the offense was clicking on all cylinders, the defense held a Bisons team that had won their last four games in a row, to only 61 points. Sha Carter finished with a season high and game high 30 points, and carried the Eagles to victory. TK Morehouse (18 points), and Alyza Winston (11 points) also finished in double figures in scoring for FGCU. Lipscomb was led offensively by Molly Heard, who scored a team high 18 points. Jalyn Holcomb (15 points), and Blythe Pearson (11 points) also scored in double figures for the Bisons.

The key to victory for FGCU, was the offense dishing out 21 assists, while grabbing 8 steals in the game. Defensively, Lipscomb was held to 18% (2/11) from beyond the arc, and couldn’t keep up with the potent FGCU offense. Lipscomb fought back though, outscoring the Eagles 18-14 in the 2nd quarter, so expect Coach Smesko to make the necessary adjustments in the future vs Lipscomb. Both teams will face off one last time on 3/1, from Allen Arena, and there could be major implications for the ASUN Conference tournament, from the game between the Eagles and Bisons. It’s great to see Head Coach Lauren Sumski has her team believing, and expect Lipscomb to be a strong team like they are currently, and in the future. FGCU keeps rolling, and it is happening at the right time with four games left in the regular season.

What’s Next:

#25 FGCU (25-3, 13-1 ASUN) looks to win their eighth game in a row, as they face Austin Peay (15-9, 10-4 ASUN), Saturday afternoon at 3 PM, from Alico Arena.
