Jacksonville, FL- FGCU (16-11, 6-8 ASUN) defeated Jacksonville University (12-13, 5-9 ASUN), 62-51, Saturday afternoon from Historic Swisher Gymnasium.

Stats (FGCU):

FGCU shot 45.5% (20/44) from the field, 35.0% (7/20) from beyond the arc, and were outrebounded 30-26 by JU. The Eagles dished out 10 assists, had 9 steals, and 2 blocks in the game. FGCU forced 12 JU team turnovers, while having team 8 turnovers of their own.

Stats (JU):

JU shot 40.8% (20/49) from the field, 14.3% (2/14) from beyond the arc, and outrebounded FGCU 30-26. The Dolphins dished out 10 assists, had 1 steal, and 1 block in the game. JU forced 8 FGCU team turnovers, while having team 12 turnovers of their own.

Overview:

The Eagles got off to a horrible start in this game, as JU held a 15-3 lead with 15:03 to go in the first half. FGCU responded though and took the lead courtesy of a Thompson layup, 22-21, with 5:17 left in the first half.

FGCU was led offensively by Isaiah Thompson, who scored a game high 20 points. Zach Anderson (11 points), and Andre Weir (10 points), also scored in double figures for FGCU. Jacksonville was led offensively by Mike Marsh, who scored 18 points. Kevion Nolan also scored in double figures for the Dolphins, finishing with 14 points.

FGCU outscored JU 40-26 in the second half of today’s game, and that was the story of the game. The Eagles outscored the Dolphins 11-0 over the last 3:09 of the game, and that kind of defense will earn key wins, when they may have lost these type of games, earlier in the year. It was a great team win for FGCU, and they need to keep building off of these encouraging team wins.

FGCU (16-11, 6-8 ASUN) remains on the road to face Stetson University (14-11, 9-5 ASUN), Wednesday night, from the Edmunds Center at 7 PM.
