Overview:
FGCU and Liberty face off for the second time this year, Saturday night in Lynchburg. The Eagles took the first meeting 70-53, on 1/2 from Alico Arena. Since that meeting, Liberty is 4-1 since that meeting, with their sole loss being on the road vs UNF on 1/12. FGCU is 5-0 since beginning ASUN Conference play at home vs the Flames.
Head Coach Carey Green is hoping to end the Eagles ten game winning streak, and Mya Berkman, the Flames leading scorer (14.3 ppg), will be the toughest player for FGCU to defend. TK Morehouse leads the Eagles offensively, and is averaging 15.9 ppg. Alyza Winston (14.2 ppg) and Sha Carter (11.4 ppg) have been huge for Coach Smesko, and these core players for FGCU each have the opportunity to lead the Eagles in scoring, so Liberty will have their hands full when it comes to what player they decide to gameplan against, and limit offensively. Liberty has the height advantage like most teams that play FGCU have, and the Flames boasts 5 players that are between 6’2-6’6. C Bella Smuda (6’6), and F Alise Markova (6’2), join Mya Berkman (6’3), as Liberty will try to use their height advantage to bounce back vs FGCU.
It should be a great game from Liberty Arena, as the 1st place Eagles take on the 4th place Flames, for the last time during the regular season, before Liberty heads to Conference USA.
