LIBERTY/FGCU RECAP

Fort Myers, FL- FGCU (13-2, 1-0 ASUN) defeated Liberty University (6-6, 0-1 ASUN), 70-53, Monday night from Alico Arena.

Stats (LU):

Liberty shot 41.3% (24/57) from the field, 18.2% (2/11) from beyond the arc, and outrebounded FGCU 34-29. The Flames dished out 9 assists, had 1 steal, and 2 blocks in the game. Liberty forced 6 FGCU team turnovers, while having 16 team turnovers of their own.

FGCU shot 42.1% (24/57) from the field, 37.5% (12/32) from beyond the arc, and were outrebounded 34-29 by Liberty. The Eagles dished out 18 assists, had 10 steals, and 1 block in the game. FGCU forced 16 Liberty team turnovers, while having 6 team turnovers of their own.

Overview:

FGCU looked like the fresher team Monday night vs Liberty. and the Flames would never have a lead in tonight’s game. The Eagles hit 12 three point field goals, and shot 37% from beyond the arc in the game. Four Eagles scored in double figures in the game, and that group was led by Sha Carter, who finished with 17 points. Alyza Winston (13 points, TK Morehouse (11 points), and Uju Ezeudu (10 points) were the other Eagles to score in double figures in the game.

Liberty was led offensively by Mya Berkman, who finished with 17 points. Both teams will face each other one final time during the regular season, on January 21st, from Liberty Arena. Liberty is headed to Conference USA next season. It was a great win to open ASUN Conference play, and the Eagles will look to win their sixth game in a row, later this week from Alico Arena.

FGCU (13-2, 1-0 ASUN) remains at home, to face Jacksonville University (7-4, 1-0 ASUN), Thursday night at 7 PM from Alico Arena.
