Overview:
FGCU looks to avenge last year’s 97-90 2OT loss on the road last season vs Canisius. Obviously, this team looks much different than last year’s team but this is a game we have had circled on the calendar since the bad loss last season.
Canisius is led by Head Coach Reggie Witherspoon, who has been with team since 2016. 6’0 R-FR G Tahj Staveskie leads the team in scoring, averaging 13.3 ppg. The Golden Griffins have wins over St. Bonaventure, and Fredonia (D3), and losses vs Youngstown State, Cleveland State, Cornell, Buffalo, Siena, Iona, Toledo, and Penn State. Canisius has lost six games in a row, so the Eagles need to take advantage of that, and dominate Canisius.
FGCU is led offensively by 6’1 SR G Isaiah Thompson, who is averaging 13.0 ppg. The Eagles have won their past two games, and closing out their non-conference schedule Wednesday night, with an opportunity to earn 10 wins before ASUN Conference play, which is very impressive.
