Lexington, KY- FGCU (9-2) defeated the University of Kentucky (7-4), 69-63, Sunday afternoon from Memorial Coliseum.

Stats (FGCU):

FGCU shot 41.8% (23/55) from the field, 32.0% (32.0) from beyond the arc, and were outrebounded 38-29 by Kentucky. The Eagles dished out 16 assists, had 4 steals, and 3 blocks in the game. FGCU forced 20 Wildcats team turnovers, while having 19 team turnovers of their own.

UK shot 32.8% (19/58) from the field, 14.3% (2/14) from beyond the arc, and outrebounded FGCU 38-29. The Wildcats dished out 7 assists, had 6 steals, and 6 blocks in the game. Kentucky forced 19 FGCU team turnovers, while having 20 team turnovers of their own.

Overview:

FGCU outplayed Kentucky Sunday afternoon, and the Eagles defense was key, and vital, to another victory over Kentucky. The Eagles had four players finish in double figures in scoring in the game: Sha Carter (16 pts), Alyza Winston (14 pts), Kaela Webb (13 pts), and TK Morehouse (12 pts). FGCU forced the Wildcats to shoot 14.3% from beyond the arc in the game, and in the final few minutes of the 4th Quarter, Kentucky could not complete the comeback due to the suffocating Eagles defense. Kentucky was led offensively by Robyn Benton, who scored a game high 18 points. FGCU had a 37-31 lead at halftime, and their largest lead in the game was 11 points. FGCU defeated their only SEC opponent this season, and it was another huge victory on the road for this resilient Eagles team.

FGCU (9-2) faces Mercer University (3-6), Wednesday (12/21) at 5 PM from Hawkins Arena.
