FGCU/ST. BONAVENTURE RECAP

St. Bonaventure, NY- FGCU (9-3) defeated St. Bonaventure (6-5), 71-58, Friday night from the Reilly Center.

Stats (FGCU):

FGCU shot 48.1% (26/54) from the field, 32.0% (8/25) from beyond the arc, and outrebounded the Bonnies 41-28. The Eagles dished out 13 assists, had 7 steals, and 3 blocks in the game. FGCU forced 10 SBU team turnovers, while having 15 team turnovers of their own.

SBU shot 33.9% (19/56) from the field, 34.8% (8/23) from beyond the arc, and were outrebounded 41-28 by the Eagles. The Bonnies dished out 11 assists, had 8 steals, and 4 blocks in the game. SBU forced 15 FGCU team turnovers, while having 10 team turnovers of their own.

Overview:

The Eagles defense held St. Bonaventure to 58 points overall, and the Bonnies only shot 33.9% from the field, compared to the Eagles shooting 48.1%. Chase Johnston scored a game high 22 points in 23 minutes, and shot 50% from beyond the arc (4/8). Johnston scored 10 of his 22 points in the first half of the game. Isaiah Thompson (12 points), and Andre Weir (10 points), both finished in double figures in scoring for the Eagles. The Bonnies held a 33-31 lead at halftime.

The Bonnies were led offensively by Daryl Banks III, who scored 18 points. Chad Venning (12 points), and Kyrell Luc (10 points) also finished in double figures in scoring in the game.

What’s Next:

FGCU (9-3) heads home to face Canisius University (2-7), Wednesday night at 7 PM from Alico Arena.
