RAINBOW WAHINE SHOWDOWN: FGCU/HAWAI’I RECAP

Honolulu, HI- FGCU (5-1) defeated the University of Hawai’i (1-5), 63-50, Saturday night, in the Rainbow Wahine Showdown.

Stats (FGCU):

FGCU shot 43.9% (25/57) from the field, 27.0% (10/37) from beyond the arc, and were outrebounded 39-25 by the Rainbow Warriors. The Eagles dished out 11 assists, had 12 steals, and 2 blocks in the game. FGCU forced 24 Hawai’i team turnovers, while having 10 team turnovers of their own.

Stats (UH):

Hawai’i shot 41.3% (25/57) from the field, 30.8% (4/13) from beyond the arc, and outrebounded the Eagles 39-25. The Rainbow Warriors dished out 7 assists, had 4 steals, and 0 blocks in the game. Hawai’i forced 10 FGCU team turnovers, while having 24 team turnovers of their own.

Overview:

FGCU completed the season series sweep of Hawai’i, after another huge win vs the Rainbow Warriors, in the Rainbow Wahine Showdown. FGCU had three players finish in double figures in scoring in the game: Alyza Winston (16 pts), Sha Carter (11 pts), and TK Morehouse (10 pts). Hawai’i was led offensively by Daejah Phillips, who finished with a game high 16 points. FGCU forced 24 Hawai’i team turnovers, and that was key to the Eagles victory. The Eagles hit 10 3 point field goals in tonight’s game. The Rainbow Warriors never held a lead in the game.

What’s Next:

FGCU (5-1) will face Grambling State University (1-5), Sunday at 5:00 PM, in the final game of the Rainbow Wahine Showdown, from the Stan Sheriff Center in Honolulu.
