GULF COAST SHOWCASE: FGCU/NKU RECAP

Estero, FL- FGCU (3-2) defeated Northern Kentucky (2-2), 82-61, Monday night from Hertz Arena in game one of the Gulf Coast Showcase.

Stats (FGCU):

FGCU shot 41.4% (24/58) from the field, 42.9% (12/28) from beyond the arc, and outrebounded NKU 35-26. The Eagles dished out 15 assists, had 9 steals, and 3 blocks in the game. FGCU forced 15 NKU team turnovers, while having 14 team turnovers of their own.

Stats (NKU):

NKU shot 43.4% (23/53) from the field, 38.5% (5/13) from beyond the arc, and were outrebounded 35-26 by FGCU. The Norse dished out 13 assists, had 11 steals, and 1 block in the game. NKU forced 14 FGCU team turnovers, while having 15 team turnovers of their own.

Overview:

FGCU rebounded and rallied, after a tough loss to #17 Tennessee, to defeat NKU Monday night, in the first game of the Gulf Coast Showcase. FGCU had five players finish in double figures in scoring, with Zach Anderson (game high 20 pts), Chase Johnston (14 pts), Dahmir Bishop (14 pts), Isaiah Thompson (10 pts), and Caleb Catto (10 pts). NKU was led offensively by Marques Warrick, who finished with 16 pts. Three other players finished in double figures in scoring for the Norse in tonight’s game. FGCU shot 42.9% from beyond the arc, hitting 12 3 point field goals, and that was the difference in tonight’s game. The Eagles scored 48 points in the 2nd half of tonight’s game, and the balanced scoring for this team was huge and vital when playing a deep team like NKU.

What’s Next:

FGCU (3-2) moves onto the winners bracket in the Gulf Coast Showcase, and will face Drexel University (3-1), Tuesday night at 7:30 pm from Hertz Arena. Drexel defeated UT-Arlington 59-38, in their first game in the Gulf Coast Showcase.
