Overview:
Head Coach Steve Lavin leads the Toreros, and is in his first season with the University of San Diego. He has previously coached at UCLA and St. John’s, where he has taken taken those squads to 8 NCAA Tournament appearances 11 seasons. The Toreros are led in scoring by Sigu Sisoho Jawara, who averages 17.0 ppg. Marcellus Earlington was the leading scorer from last year’s team, and this USD team has a three headed monster at guard, when you have Sisoho Jawara (17.0 ppg), Earlington (14.0 ppg), and Townsend (16.0 ppg). 6’9 GR F Jaiden Delaire (transfer from Stanford), averaged 10.1 ppg last season for the Cardinal, and 6’11 GR C Nic Lynch (Transfer from Leigh) both provide strong front court presences for the Toreros. Lynch, was the 3rd leading scorer for Leigh last season (9.7 ppg).
The Eagles come into this game, looking to take both games on their west coast road trip, after defeating USC Monday night. FGCU looks super athletic at guard, and to be one of the deepest teams in the ASUN Conference at that position. Chase Johnston was clutch for the Eagles, and hit some huge shots for the team, finishing with 20 points. Zach Anderson (11 rebounds), and Andre Weir (8 pts, 6 reb) both were strong in the post Monday night, and will definitely be counted on against Delaire and Lynch Wednesday night.
