2022 EAGLESNESTCAST ASUN PRESEASON AWARDS

PLAYER OF THE YEAR:

5’9 R-SR G Darius McGhee, Liberty

Darius is the defending back to back ASUN Player of the Year, and we believe it will be a 3 peat for him before his career at Liberty University ends. McGhee averaged 24.6 ppg (2nd in NCAA) last season as the leading scorer for the Flames, and everything goes through him on the basketball court. He is currently 5th in Liberty University history scoring 1,843 points. Expect another huge year for #2.

COACH OF THE YEAR:

Pat Chambers, Florida Gulf Coast

In his first year at FGCU, Coach Chambers has brought in one of the most talented recruiting classes FGCU has ever had. The addition of Chase Johnston, from ASUN rival Stetson, adds a proven shooter and upperclassman guard that can run the offense. A new look backcourt includes Dahmir Bishop (St Joseph’s), Isiah Thompson (Purdue), and Chase Johnston (Stetson), to go along with Cyrus Largie, Caleb Catto and Austin Richie, with the final two players coming back to FGCU for one final season. The frontcourt includes 6’11 FR C Sam Onu (Memphis), and will provide the Eagles with a true center, along with the usual players in Dakota Rivers, Zach Anderson, and Andre Weir.

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR:

6’10 SO F Jadyn Parker, North Florida

Jadyn had 49 blocks (1.63 bpg) last season for the Ospreys as a Freshman, finishing 2nd in the ASUN Conference last season. He was one of the top blockers in the whole country. At 6’10, Parker can be a force for this UNF squad. He set a UNF school record last season, with 9 blocks vs Stetson University on the road.
