Overview:
In game 1 of the series, the Eagles were led offensively by Ian Farrow, who hit his 18th HR of the season, and had 2 RBI’s in the game. FGCU starter Gus Carter (2-0) was locked in, pitching 6.2 innings, and only allowing 2 earned runs. Luis Rodriguez also homered in the game for the Eagles.
In the second game of the series, and first game of the doubleheader, FGCU raced out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the 1st, courtesy of a Brian Ellis lead off home run, Joe Kinker solo home run, and Alejandro Rodriguez solo home run. Ian Farrow and Harrison Povey would hit home runs in the top of the 3rd, as the Eagles extended their lead to 6-1. Logan Sartori would also homer for the Eagles in the top of the 4th. UNF rallied in the bottom of the 9th, to score 3 runs to tie the game up. Abraham Sequera had 4 hits, including a home run, and 5 RBI’s in the game. Sequera’s walk off RBI double in the bottom of the 11th, was the difference in this game. FGCU did hit 6 home runs in this game in the loss.
In the final game of the series, and second game of the double header, two 5 run innings were the difference for the Eagles. The Eagles hit 6 home runs in the game also, giving FGCU 12 home runs Friday in the doubleheader. Alejandro Figueredo hit 3 home runs (6 RBI’s) for the Eagles, and was the key to the Eagles winning the series vs the Ospreys. Darien Smith (3-1) was outstanding, pitching 6.0 innings pitched, allowing 6 hits, 2 runs (earned run), while striking out 2 Ospreys, and walking 2 batters. Ian Farrow, Harrison Povey, and Alejandro Rodriguez, also homered in the game for the Eagles.
