Overview:
FGCU got it done Tuesday night, winning their first game vs a top 25 team this season! The Eagles took the lead in the top of the 1st courtesy of a Brian Ellis lead off solo HR. Miami responded quickly though tying the game up, after starter Mason Miller hit Dominic Pitelli. The teams would each score runs in the 3rd inning with a Alejandro Figueredo RBI single (FGCU), and Jacob Burke solo HR (Miami). The Hurricanes took a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the 5th, and that would do it for their offense. FGCU responded with 4 runs in the top of the 8th, with a Figueredo solo HR (10th HR of season) which tied the game (3-3), and Harrison Povey gave the Eagles a lead they would not relinquish, courtesy of an RBI double (4-3). A balk from former FGCU pitcher Ronaldo Gallo, scored Alejandro Rodriguez, and a sacrifice fly from Bobby Head extended the Eagles lead to 3 runs (6-3). Joe Kinker provided the final fireworks, with his 18th home run of the season, which still hasn’t landed!
It was a huge win for the Eagles, and now FGCU needs to take this momentum into the ASUN Conference Tournament.
