Overview:
The Eagles picked up another key ASUN Conference series victory this weekend vs Kennesaw State. Inclement weather turned this series into a double header Saturday, which both teams split, and the Eagles won Sunday afternoon taking 2 out of 3 games from the Owls.
In the first game of the series, it was a back and forth affair between the two teams. KSU took a 4-1 lead before Ian Farrow tied the game up with his 12th HR of the season. That would be it for the offense Saturday afternoon, and Brayden Eidsen hit a three run HR in the top of the 7th to put the game away.
In the second game of the doubleheader, the Eagles offense erupted vs KSU in the late innings of the game. After 6 innings both teams were tied at 3. In the top of the 7th, Alejandro Figueredo singled through the ride side of the infield, driving in Brian Ellis and Bobby Head. Joe Kinker and Logan Povey each had RBI’s in the inning, and FGCU took an 8-3 lead that they would not relinquish. Brian Ellis would add 2 more RBI’s en route to the 14-3 win. Tyler Shuck allowed 3 ER in 5.2 IP and earned a no-decision in the game.
In the final game of the series, there was plenty of offense between the two teams, which was a theme all weekend. Ian Farrow (2 HR, 7 RBI’s) provided the offense, and Harrison Povey also homered in the game for the Eagles. Farrow provided the go-ahead RBI in the game in the top of the 6th inning with an RBI single, and extended the Eagles lead to 4 runs (10-6) in the top of the 8th, putting the game out of reach. FGCU finishes with a 4-2 record against KSU in the ASUN Conference regular season.
