Overview:

The Eagles let this series get away from them after JU rallied to win the rubber game of the series, with clutch 9th inning hitting to tie the game, and Trace Burchard coming through with the game winning 2 RBI single that gave the Dolphins the walk off victory.

FGCU won big in game one of the series, with Harrison Povey and Alejandro Figueredo each driving in 3 RBI’s in the victory. Jason Woodward was dominant, allowing no runs in 6 innings pitched.

In game two of the series, JU took an early lead and never looked back. Christian Coipel hit a solo HR in the bottom of the 1st to give the Dolphins the early lead. JU starting pitcher Michael Darrell-Hicks allowed an ER while striking out 7 Eagles hitters in 6 innings pitched. Brian Ellis drove in the sole RBI for the Eagles.

In the final game of the series, it was a back and forth affair between the two teams. JU jumped to an early 3-0 lead courtesy of a Christian Coipel 3 run HR in the bottom of the 1st. FGCU would score 5 runs combined between the top of the 3rd, and top of the 4th innings. The Dolphins rallied to tie the game in the bottom of the 9th, as Christian Coipel, and Tommy Joseph each had RBI singles. Ethan Campbell was thrown out at home on a bang bang play at the plate, and FGCU was lucky enough to play extra innings after that close call. In the top of the 10th, Logan Santori courtesy of a fielder’s choice drove in Harrison Povey and this gave FGCU back the lead, 8-7. In the bottom of the 10th, Trace Burchard played hero, and walked the Dolphins off with a 2 RBI single that scored Cam Ridley, and Jackson Grabsky securing the series for JU.

What’s Next:

FGCU (27-17, 12-9 ASUN) heads on the road to face Kennesaw State University (26-18, 14-7 ASUN), for a three game series starting Friday night from Stillwell Baseball Stadium.
