#1 FGCU VS #3 STETSON ASUN SEMIFINALS RECAP

Fort Myers, FL- #1 FGCU (28-2) won their 6th game in a row, defeating Stetson University (20-12), 82-67, in the ASUN Conference Semifinals Wednesday night from Alico Arena.

Stats:

FGCU shot 51.8% (29/56) from the field, 42.9% (15/35) from beyond the arc, and outrebounded the Hatters 30-29. The Eagles dished out 20 assists, had 11 steals, and 6 blocks in the game. FGCU forced 19 Hatters team turnovers, while having 17 team turnovers of their own.

Overview:

#3 Stetson University started this game of fire! The Hatters had a 28-15 lead midway through the 2nd quarter, and the Eagles weren’t shooting the ball really well at that point. #1 FGCU closed out the half playing better and went into the half only down 32-26. After the Eagles came back out for the 2nd half of the game, Head Coach Karl Smesko lit a fire under this team. The Eagles scored 25 points in the 3rd Quarter, and 29 points in the 4th quarter, combining for 54 points, and this led to the double digit win over the Hatters. The Eagles went into the 4th Quarter up 53-49, so the Hatters were still hanging around in this game. #1 FGCU went on cruise control in the 4th Quarter, to dominate the Hatters and are headed back to the ASUN Championship game!

Kierstan Bell scored a game high and double double of 19 points and 11 rebounds, to lead the Eagles. Emma List was huge in this game as she scored 14 points and knocked down 4 three point field goals at vital times of the game, especially in the first half to keep the Eagles in the game vs the Hatters. Karli Seay (13 points), TK Morehouse (12 points), and Kendall Spray (12 points), also finished in double figures for the Eagles. #3 Stetson was led by FR Alyssa Hargrove who finished with 18 points. Alyssa was unstoppable in the first half, and will be a force the next few years for Head Coach Lynn Bria and the Hatters. Jamiya Turner (17 points), Tatiana Streun (12 points), and Ayanna Dublin (10 points) also finished in double figures for the Hatters. This veteran team did what they had to do to win Wednesday night, and now after Jacksonville State upset Liberty 59-57, the Eagles look to make another NCAA Tournament run as they face the Gamecocks Saturday night.

#1E FGCU (28-2) faces #1W Jacksonville State University (24-6) in the ASUN Championship game Saturday night at 7 PM from Alico Arena.
