Overview:
The Eagles offense erupted once again Wednesday night vs the Golden Gophers. FGCU had a 6 run bottom of the 3rd inning, and a 5 run bottom of the 6th inning, which included plenty of extra base hits from this potent Eagles offense. Brian Ellis led the charge in the leadoff spot, with a HR and 4 RBI’s. Harrison Povey, and Joe Kinker also hit home runs in the big win. Alejandro Rodriguez continues his hot hitting ways, and finished with 3 RBI’s vs the Golden Gophers. Starter Mason Miller pitched 3.1 IP allowing 4 R (ALL ER), 5 hits, and struck out 6 UM batters, while walking only 1 batter. Darien Smith (1-0) earned the win for the Eagles in relief, pitching 2.1 IP, allowing only 1 hit, while striking out 1 hitter. The bullpen was shutdown for the Eagles, and this helped FGCU coast in this game. FGCU has won their past three games, and this offense looks to keep it going this weekend. Minnesota’s starting pitcher Trent Schoeberl (0-1) pitched only 2 innings, allowing 3 hits, 5 runs (ALL ER), and struck out 1, while walking 2 Eagles.
