Overview:

FGCU dominated this game from the tip and the Eagles were led by Kierstan Bell (30 pts, 12 reb) who would not be denied! The Panthers had no answers for her and the Eagles as FGGU routed High Point. The Eagles forced 20 High Point team turnovers in the game, while only having 8 team turnovers of their own. TK Morehouse (16 pts) and Emma List (10 pts), also finished in double figures in scoring for the Eagles. FGCU won both games in the West Palm Beach Invitational and won their 4th game in a row in the process. High Point was led by Jaden Wrightsell, who scored 11 pts.

It was amazing seeing Coach Smesko and Coach Banbury face off, and it’s such a unique situation when a coach faces a former athlete they coached, and also was part of their coaching staff. The picture taken before the game, showed many of the former athletes coached by Coach Smesko, who were hired by Coach Banbury, and on staff at High Point, and this is a game both teams will never forget. Hopefully, FGCU and High Point can work out a multiple game contract so we can see this new “rivalry” pick up for years to come.

What’s Next:

FGCU (11-1) enjoys a holiday break before facing Fordham University (8-3) on the road on 12/29 at 2 PM.
