Overview:
The Eagles face Western Michigan out of the MAC Conference in game one of the Hilton Garden Inn Invitational. The Broncos are led by Head Coach Clayton Bates, who is in his 2nd season leading WMU. WMU has faced Iowa, and Michigan State so far, as part of their non-conference schedule. They have not beaten an NCAA D-1 team yet this season though, as their lone win came against Hope College on 11/10. Their losses have come against Iowa, Michigan State, and NCAA D-2 team Saginaw Valley State University. The Broncos are led in scoring by Lamar Norman Jr who averages 18.0 ppg.
FGCU heads into this tournament on a high note as Tavian Dunn-Martin and Caleb Catto, are playing some of their best basketball of the season. The Eagles were resilient in their win vs Rhode Island Tuesday night, and need to carry the momentum into the Hilton Garden Inn Invitational. We expect Kevin Samuel to give the Broncos trouble in the post in this game. WMU only scores 61.5 ppg, so they will look to keep the game close and low scoring. The rotation at guard will be a key to an Eagles victory, since they have better depth at the position offensively, than the Broncos have.
Prediction:
FGCU 81 WMU 62
