TEMPLE/FGCU RECAP

Fort Myers, FL- FGCU (2-0) used a strong 4th quarter to earn a huge non-conference win vs Temple University (1-1) 70-53, Friday night from Alico Arena.

Stats:

FGCU shot 41.9% (26/62) from the field, and 22.1% (8/36) from beyond the arc. The Eagles were outrebounded 45-35 by the Owls. FGCU dished out 14 assists, had 12 steals, and 1 block in the game. The Eagles forced 25 Owls team turnovers and had 18 team turnovers of their own. Temple went without a 3 pointer as they shot 0% (0/11) from beyond the arc.

Mia Davis 16 pts, 8 reb

Overview:

The Eagles earned a big win vs Temple University tonight. FGCU only had a 6 point lead (33-27) at the half, and really played their strong brand of basketball in the 2nd half of the game. Kierstan Bell led the Eagles with 26 pts, and eclipsed over 1,000 points in her playing career during the game. Kendall Spray (15 pts, 5/11 from beyond the arc) is starting to do what she does best, hitting 3’s, and did her part in tonight’s big win. Temple was led by Alexa Williamson who had a huge game, and a double double to lead the Owls (23 pts, 12 reb). FGCU was able to control Mia Davis, and that was one of the keys to victory. Mia finished with 34 pts last season vs the Eagles. Head Coach Karl Smesko stated in his postgame interview with Tom James that the Eagles will need to cut down on their team turnovers as they head into Sunday’s afternoon game with LSU.
