
Preseason Player of the Year:
5’9 SR G Darius McGhee, Liberty
What more can you say about Darius. Darius was the ASUN Player of the Year last season and is the heart and soul of Liberty University basketball. Expect a huge Senior season from McGhee as the Flames and Colonels go head to head to see who will be the top team in the ASUN Conference.
Defensive Player of the Year:
6’11 C Kevin Samuel, FGCU
Kevin joins the Eagles as a fifth year SR, after previously playing at TCU. Samuel averaged 8.8 ppg, and 7.8 rpg in 26 games for the Horned Frogs. He ranked 1st in the Big 12, and 39th nationally in offensive rebounds per game last year. Led Big 12 with 1.7 blocks per game, and will be a force defensively and offensively for the Eagles.
Coach of the Year:
A.W. Hamilton, Eastern Kentucky
Coach Hamilton joins the ASUN and brings over a dominant Colonels team that went 22-7 last season in the OVC.
Eastern Kentucky brought in multiple power 5 transfers, including 5’11 JR G Trevin Wade (Wichita State), 5’10 SR G Braxton Beverly (NC STATE), and 6’10 R-JR F Iran Bennett (Marshall) this offseason. Leading scorer returning for EKU is 6’2 JR G Jomaru Brown who averaged 11.8 ppg before a season ending injury last season. Jomaru was 1st Team All-OVC his Sophomore season, and averaged 18.4 ppg that year (4th in OVC).
