Overview:
#1 FGCU faces #4 Jacksonville University in the ASUN Quarterfinals, and the Eagles had plenty of regular season success vs the Dolphins, as they were 5-1 this season vs JU.
The Eagles have one win vs the top 25, and that came last week vs #17 FSU. The Dolphins have two top 25 wins, with wins over #5/#6 Florida and vs #17/#18 FSU. The key to victory in this series will be the pitching. The Eagles and Dolphins pitching staff head to head will be the X factor in this series. FGCU needs Mason Studstill (7-2, 3.25 ERA) pitching like he has all season for the Eagles to be successful. Tyler Shuck (2-0, 4.06 ERA) and Tyler Tipton (4-1, 3.35 ERA) will also be in line for big roles over the weekend, and expect to see both pitchers out there vs JU, whether as starters or long relief.
We also touched on Brian Ellis slashing .438/.544 OB%/.630 SLG%, 12 RBI, 17 walks, 17 runs, 6 strikeouts in 90 plate appearances, and it’s amazing to think he is only a redshirt Sophomore. There has many so much production from Seniors like Richie Garcia, Marc Coffers, and Cam Krzeminski, in the past and present, but it’s easy to forget that there are plenty of underclassmen producing for this team, and that includes Ian Farrow, Stephen Wilmer, Joe Kinker, and Alexander Figueredo.
