Overview:
FGCU dominated UNF this weekend in the first two games of the series with strong pitching, and clutch hitting. Mason Studstill (7-2) continued his strong Senior season going 5 innings, while only allowing an earned run, and striking out two while walking one. The offense in game one was led by Cam Krzeminski who finished with 3 RBI’s.
In game two, Tyler Tipton (4-1), lasted 6 innings, while only allowing 5 hits, and one earned run. The offense was led by Marc Coffers who had 4 RBI’s in the game.
In the final game of the series, UNF had a 3-0 lead on the Eagles, and FGCU fought back. The Eagles scored runs in the 6th, 7th, and 9th innings. The Eagles tied the game on Richie Garcia being hit by a pitch by Brandon Reitz, which scored Marc Coffers. UNF though responded in extras, scoring 4 runs in the top of the 10th, to take the final game of the series. We were very impressed with Jason Woodward this afternoon out of the bullpen who pitched 3.2 IP in relief of Ronaldo Gallo, striking out 6 Ospreys, walking 2, and allowing only 1 hit.
With JU, winning 2 out of 3 games vs Stetson University this weekend, the Eagles are in 1st place in the ASUN South Division, and an all important series next weekend vs Jacksonville University on the road, now has major stakes.
What’s Next:
FGCU heads on the road to face Jacksonville University (9-28, 2-13 ASUN) for a three game series starting Friday May 7th.
