#1 FGCU/ #2 LIBERTY ASUN CHAMPIONSHIP PREVIEW

Kennesaw, GA- #1 and #21/#24 FGCU faces #2 Liberty University for the ASUN Championship game, and it’s a rematch we had in place for last season’s championship game, before COVID-19 rocked the sports world. #2 #1 FGCU beat #4 Lipscomb 59-44 and Liberty beat #3 UNF 65-52, in the other ASUN Semifinals game.

Players To Watch For (LU):

5’11 R-SR G/F Emily Lytle

5’6 SR G Ashtyn Baker

6’3 JR F/C Mya Berkman

Players To Watch For (FGCU):

6’1 SO G Kierstan Bell

5’3 JR G TK Morehouse

5’8 R-JR G Tyra Cox

Overview:

We finally get the Liberty/FGCU ASUN Championship game we desired from last season. Obviously, FGCU lost over 90% of their scoring, so this team looks so much different, but has plenty of the same characteristics of last season’s team. Kierstan Bell, TK Morehouse, and Aaliyah Stanley each have the ability to take over games for the Eagles. Both Kierstan and TK were ASUN All-Conference 1st Team, and Kierstan won ASUN Player of the Year, as well as ASUN Newcomer of the Year. For Liberty, Emily Lytle and Ashtyn Baker both made were ASUN All-Conference 1st Team selections also.

Coach Karl Smesko has coached FGCU for 19 seasons and Coach Carey Green has coached Liberty for 22 seasons, so you have two veteran coaches going at it for the ASUN Championship. The Eagles are one step closer to March Madness, should be a great game!

Prediction:

#1 FGCU 73 #2 Liberty 64
