ASUN QUARTERFINALS RECAP: #1 FGCU vs #9 JU

Kennesaw, GA- #21/#24 and #1 seed FGGU advanced to the ASUN Semifinals with a 87-62 win over #9 seed Jacksonville University Thursday afternoon. Today’s win was the Eagles 23rd win in a row which is incredible. The Eagles will find out their next opponent after the Bellarmine/Liberty and UNA/UNF games are played tonight at 7 PM. The Eagles will play tomorrow at 2 PM.

Stats:

FGCU shot 44.8% (30/67) from the field, 31.3% (15/48) from beyond the arc, and outrebounded JU 42-31. The Eagles dished out 17 assists, had 9 steals, and 2 blocks in the game. FGCU forced 19 Dolphins team turnovers, and had 12 team turnovers of their own.

Overview:

FGCU set the tone in this game and the Dolphins never led this afternoon. The Eagles hit 15 3’s and Jacksonville just couldn’t keep up with the athleticism of Coach Smesko’s team. The Eagles largest lead in the game was 33 pts.

Four Eagles finished in double figures in scoring including TK Morehouse (28 pts), Kierstan Bell (22 pts, 13 reb), Tyra Cox (21 pts), and Aaliyah Stanley (10 pts). The Dolphins were led by Deshari Graham who finished with 12 pts.

What’s Next:

#1 seed FGCU will wait to find out their next opponent after the 7:00 games are completed. The Eagles will face the highest seed left that wins today.
