#3 LIPSCOMB/#6 FGCU ASUN QUARTERFINALS PREVIEW

Jacksonville, FL- #6 FGCU (9-7, 4-5 ASUN) looks to pull the upset vs #3 Lipscomb University (15-11, 9-6 ASUN) in a 2020 ASUN Conference Tournament Quarterfinal rematch. The game will be played on the campus of Jacksonville University at Historic Swisher Gymnasium.

Lipscomb averages 71.6 ppg, shoot 46.4% (663/1429) from the field, and 35.7% (194/543) from beyond the arc. The Bisons grab 33.7 rebounds per game. Lipscomb dishes out 13.6 assists, 6.1 steals, and 2.0 blocks per game. The Bisons average 11.8 team turnovers per game.

6’5 JR G Caleb Catto 13.2 ppg

6’3 SR G Jalen Warren 11.8 ppg

Players To Watch For (LU):

6’8 JR C Ahsan Asadullah 14.2 ppg, 7.9 rpg

6’5 GR G Romaeo Ferguson 13.6 ppg

6’2 SO G KJ Johnson 13.3 ppg

Overview:

FGCU heads into this game after a stunning loss to Kennesaw State University Friday night, and the Saturday game being postponed due to a possible positive COVID-19 test.

Ahsan Asadullah is always a problem for the Eagles, and after the 40 pt, 14 reb performance he had against the Eagles on 3/3 last year, the Eagles will have to find a way to stop him. The Bisons also have multiple guards that can score at will, including Romaeo Ferguson (13.6 ppg) and KJ Johnson (13.3 ppg). Greg Jones averages 8.2 ppg and in the past has burned FGCU. Defending the post will be massive, and we expect Eli Abaev and Dakota Rivers to be on Ahsan in a zone defense, that will lead to open attempts from Johnson, Ferguson, and Jones, but will be key in beating Lipscomb.

Every team has had to deal with the possibility of being shut down due to COVID-19, and that’s no excuse for FGCU, who has had a month of games cancelled (4 games) due to COVID-19. The Eagles also had last week’s game vs Kennesaw State cancelled also. Coach Fly is headed into his last game under his current contract with FGCU, and everyone is wondering if he should receive a contract extension or if the Eagles will look to a new face to try to evolve this current team into a team that can win multiple games during ASUN Conference tournaments, instead of not making it past the Quarterfinals.

Cyrus Largie has had a sensational Sophomore season for the Eagles and him, Caleb Catto, and Jalen Warren, will have to be in double figures if the Eagles expect to be competitive in this game vs Lipscomb.

Prediction:

#3 LU 81 #6 FGCU 64
