FAU/FGCU RECAP

Fort Myers, FL- FGCU (3-1) had chances to win the game, but couldn’t get it done, as FAU (3-1) survived a last second bases loaded jam.

Outstanding Players (FAU):

Bobby Morgensen: 2/4, R, 2 RBI’s

Jackson Wenstrom: 1/4, RBI

Outstanding Players (FGCU):

Marc Coffers: 2/5, R, HR, RBI

Brian Ellis: 2/5

Overview:

The Eagles started the scoring early, as Marc Coffers hit a solo HR to give the Eagles a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the 1st, but that’s all the scoring the Eagles would get in the game. FAU came right back at FGCU, with Jackson Wenstrom driving in Jared Desantolo in the top of the 2nd. The go ahead runs for the Owls, came via the long ball, as Bobby Morgensen hit a 2-run home run to give FAU a 3-1 lead.

FGCU loaded the bases up in the bottom of the 9th, but Mike Entenza got Brian Ellis to fly out and Marc Coffers hit a ball that looked like it could have been another ball of his leg for a foul ball, but the Owls got the out, celebrated and took the first game of four this season vs FGCU. Gus Carter kept FGCU in the game pitching 4.1 IP allowing one hit, striking out six Owls, and only walking two batters.

It’ll be fun seeing how the Eagles matchup with FAU on the road March 5-7 since both teams can score a lot of runs, even though Tuesday night’s game was low scoring due to some great pitchers on the mound for both teams.

What’s Next:

FGCU remains at home and faces Kansas University (2-1) for four games starting Friday February 26th.
