STETSON/FGCU RECAP GM 2

Fort Myers, FL- FGCU (7-6, 2-4 ASUN) struggled at home Saturday night, losing 77-66, to Stetson University (5-9, 3-5 ASUN)

Stats:

FGCU shot 39.7% (25/63) from the field, 31.3% (10/32) from beyond the arc, and outrebounded the Hatters 39-36. The Eagles dished out 14 assists, had 6 steals, and 6 blocks in the game. FGCU forced 10 Stetson turnovers while having 15 team turnovers of their own.

Overview:

FGCU struggled out of the gate and the Hatters would not be denied from beyond the arc to start the game. The Eagles faced a 40-26 halftime deficit, and could not find their shot from beyond the arc, until late in the 2nd half when it was too late. This game was a much needed game for Coach Fly to win and the Eagles to start a winning streak of their own to stay competitive in ASUN play. The Eagles had no answer for Rob Perry (30 pts) and Chase Johnston (20 pts), who could not be stopped Saturday night, combining for 50 pts.

FGCU was led by Cyrus Largie who led the Eagles with 16 pts, Dakota Rivers who had 12 pts, and Dom London who scored 12 pts.

Back to back sweeps of teams is going to be the only thing to get FGCU back on track in the ASUN standings. The Eagles have a lot of work to do if they want to even think about hosting a game in the ASUN Quarterfinals.

Outstanding Players (SU):

Rob Perry 30 pts

Chase Johnston 20 pts

Christiaan Jones 8 pts, 9 reb

Outstanding Players (FGCU):

Cyrus Largie 16 pts

Dakota Rivers 12 pts

Dom London 12 pts

What’s Next:

FGCU has a week off which could change with the need to make up ASUN games. If the schedule holds true, the Eagles will face Kennesaw State (3-15, 0-10 ASUN) for back to back games on the road starting 2/12.
