STETSON/FGCU PREVIEW

Fort Myers, FL- FGCU (6-5, 1-3 ASUN) welcomes Stetson University (4-8, 2-4 ASUN) to Alico Arena for back to back games starting January 29th.

Stats:

Stetson averages 66.5 ppg, shoot 40% from the field, and 35% from beyond the arc. The Hatters averages team 35.6 team rebounds per game. Stetson dishes out 13.4 assists, 6.8 steals, and 3.1 blocks per game. Stetson averages 14.4 team turnovers per game.

Overview:

The Eagles get to see Stetson a week earlier than previously planned, and it is a good time to see the Hatters after they were also swept by ASUN newcomer Bellarmine, last weekend on the road. The Hatters lost their non conference season opener 64-61 vs Emmanuel College (D2), but split games with Liberty University and Northern Alabama, so it is hard to break down which Hatters team we are going to get al Alico Arena.

R-FR Chase Johnston leads the Hatters in scoring averaging 13.4 ppg and ASUN Freshman of the Year from last season, SO G Rob Perry averages 12.8 ppg. Sometimes lost in the shuffle, SR G Christiaan Jones is averaging 10.6 ppg for the Hatters and another player you can’t forget about.

FGCU needs a sweep of Stetson to get back on track in the ASUN standings. Inconsistent basketball continues to plague the Eagles, since they fell flat Saturday night vs Lipscomb, after an inspiring win Friday night vs the Bisons. Limiting Chase Johnston and Rob Perry will be the key to victory. The matchup with SO F Mahamadou Diawara will be huge too, and it’ll be interesting to see what combination of players guard the big man.

Players To Watch For (SU):

6’2 R-FR G Chase Johnston 13.4 ppg

6’4 SO G Rob Perry 12.8 ppg

6’5 SR G Christiaan Jones 10.6 ppg, 5.0 rpg
