Fort Myers, FL- FGCU (5-2) won their fourth game in five games, Tuesday night at home, beating Georgia Southern (6-3) 73-60.
Stats:
FGCU shot 43.3% (26/60) from the field, 30.8% (8/26) from beyond the arc, and were outrebounded by 40-39 by Georgia Southern. FGCU dished out 11 assists, had 10 steals, and 4 blocks in the game. FGCU forced 16 GSU turnovers and had 14 team turnovers of their own.
Overview:
It was a huge win for FGCU as they closed out non conference play. FGCU was led by Caleb Catto who scored 19 pts and three other Eagles finished in double figures, including Cyrus Largie (16 pts), Jalen Warren (10 pts), and Eli Abaev (10 pts). Georgia Southern was led by Eric Boone who finished with 23 pts.
This was the most balanced the Eagles have looked facing an NCAA D1 team during this non-conference part of the schedule. Cyrus Largie is starting to come into his own when it comes to scoring and playing big minutes. He continues to score double digits and now has reached six games scoring 10 pts or more. Luis Rolon looks like a true point guard and is continuing to develop as a true freshman.
There is plenty to build off when it comes to this game. ASUN Conference play begins January 1st vs UNA, and this is the part of the season where FGCU needs to play their best basketball. This was the same Georgia Southern team that beat FIU, a team that FGCU really struggled with, so Tuesday’s victory was massive. This team has plenty of growing to do, but this was a big win at home. Have to not take dumb technical fouls either though as both Eagles teams had 2 technicals issued in the game.
Outstanding Players (GSU):

What’s Next:
