FGCU/MIAMI RECAP

Coral Gables, FL- FGCU (3-1) upset Miami (3-1), 66-62, Saturday afternoon from the Watsco Center.

Stats:

FGCU shot 37.5% (21/56) from the field, 43.3% (13/30) from beyond the arc, and were outrebounded 43-28 by the Hurricanes. The Eagles dished out 15 assists, had 8 steals, and 3 blocks in the game. FGCU forced 15 Miami turnovers and had 13 team turnovers of their own.

Overview:

FGCU pulled off the upset Saturday and you have to be happy with the way the Eagles shot the ball from beyond the arc. The thirteen 3 pointers made by the Eagles were the most FGCU has ever made against a power five team.

It was a game where UM only had six scholarship athletes available in the game. Rodney Miller and Kameron McGusty both got injured in the game for the Hurricanes and the Eagles were able to take advantage when the fatigue set in towards the last few minutes of the game.

Caleb Catto led the Eagles with 18 pts, Dakota Rivers contributed 15 pts on 5/11 shooting from beyond the arc. Cyrus Largie finished with 12 pts, and Eli Abaev scored 11 pts, finishing with a team high 9 rebounds.

Miami was led by Sophomore guard Isaiah Wong, who finished with 20 pts, 7 ft Center Nysier Brooks, had a double double, finishing with 13 pts, 15 rebounds.

We think its time for Dakota Rivers and Luis Rolon to receive more minutes for FGCU. Rolon played 33 minutes with Jalen Warren not playing tonight but shows the skills to contribute when given the right amount of minutes. Dakota and Eli look like the best big men on the court for the Eagles. Figuring out the right matchup for the big men in the ASUN will be an interesting task for the Eagles.

Outstanding Players (FGCU):

Caleb Catto 18 pts

Dakota Rivers 15 pts

Cyrus Largie 12 pts

Eli Abaev 11 pts, 9 reb

Outstanding Players (UM):

Isaiah Wong 20 pts

Nysier Brooks 13 pts, 15 reb

Anthony Brooks 12 pts
