FGCU/Miami Preview

Coral Gables, FL- FGCU (2-1) faces the University of Miami (3-0) Saturday afternoon from the Watsco Center.

Stats:

The Hurricanes average 72.3 ppg and shoot 45% from the field, and 25% from beyond the arc. Miami averages 43.0 rebounds per game. UM dishes out 16.0 assists per game, 8.0 steals per game, and 4.7 blocks per game. Miami averages 13.0 team turnovers per game.

Overview:

UM heads into this game after facing UNF (77-59) and Stetson (82-60), two ASUN opponents, in which they were victorious. The Hurricanes also came back from behind to beat Purdue (58-54) in the Big 10/ACC Challenge. Miami is coached by Head Coach Jim Larranaga, who is in his 10th season, leading the team.

6’7 FR F Matt Cross is a 4 star recruit, and also a top 100 prospect. He is averaging 9.3 ppg for the Hurricanes.

FGCU will also have to defend another 7 footer in 7’0 SR C Nysier Brooks. Brooks averages 7.0 ppg/5.0 rpg. It’ll be interesting to see if Coach Fly has Eli or Dakota guard Nysier. The frontcourt rotation for the Eagles guarding Brooks and Cross will be a matchup to watch for.

The Hurricanes boast an upperclassmen backcourt that includes 5’7 SR G Chris Lykes (15.5 ppg) and 6’5 SR G Kameron McGusty (13.0 ppg). 5’7 SO G Isiah Wong leads the ‘Canes in scoring averaging 16.0 ppg.
