FGCU/USF RECAP

Tampa, FL- FCCU (1-1) fell behind early, and cold shooting doomed the team from the start. USF (2-2) started the game on fire from both beyond the arc and from the field and took it to the Eagles in the post. The 18-4 run by USF early proved costly for FGCU.

FGCU was led by Jalen Warren who scored 15 points, while Cyrus Largie tied his career high 12 points, and Franco Miller Jr chipped in with 10 points for the Eagles. Eli Abaev had a game high 10 rebounds for FGCU.

USF was paced by four double digits scorers including leading scorer 7 footer Michael Durr (14 pts, 9 reb), Alexis Yetna (13 pts, 9 reb) Caleb Murphy (12 pts), and Justin Brown (10 points).

The Bulls were much bigger in the post than FGCU, and constantly won both the 50/50 balls, and the battles down low. USF shot 49% from the field and 38.9% from beyond the arc in the game.

The Durr matchup was one to watch for since ASUN Conference play will be here quickly, and FGCU has to figure out the matchups to guard standout Lipscomb Center Ahsan Asadullah. It was great to get this game on such short notice since FGCU had not played USF in seven years.

Stats:

FGCU shot 35.5% (22/62) from the field, 23.3% (7/30) from beyond the arc. The Eagles were outrebounded 44-37 by the Bulls. FGCU dished out 11 assists, forced 7 steals, and had 3 blocks. The Eagles forced 11 USF turnovers while having 15 team turnovers of their own.
