Fort Myers, FL- FGGU (1-0) defeated FAMU (0-1), 65-56, Wednesday night from Alico Arena.
Overview:
FGCU was led by JR G Caleb Catto who finished with 13 pts, while SO F Dakota Rivers finished with 11 pts and his game has progressed so much as he grows into his body, after putting on over ten pounds of muscle over the offseason.
FR G Luis Rolon played 21 minutes in his collegiate debut and looked like a true point guard that can take over some games in future for the team. We were impressed with Franco Miller Jr (9 points) and Eli Abaev (8 points) who both made their debuts for the Eagles. FGGU has plenty of improvements to make, and that includes cutting down on the team turnovers. FGCU needs to show the full court pressure throughout the non conference schedule, since we believe they have the athletes to do so.
FAMU was led by Kamron Reaves (15 points) and Johnny Brown (13 points) who both finished in double figures for the Rattlers.
FGGU took a 32-28 lead into the half.
Stats:
FGCU shot 56.9% from the field (29/51), 28.6% from beyond the arc (6/21), outrebounded FAMU 30-24, dished out 16 assists, had 9 steals, 2 blocks and forced 20 Rattlers turnovers while having 23 team turnovers.
